This experimental map overlay from MODIS Aqua was acquired on May 17, 2011.

It is an atmospherically corrected, 500 meter spatial resolution MOD09 multiband reflectance data set which utilizes specific bands to illustrate the sediment plume(s) in the Spillway affected regions.

This data has been provided through a USGS collaboration with the NASA Applied Sciences & Technology Project Office at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

Collaborating organizations that have provided their monitoring information are reflected on the map with links to their data, where available. This map only provides known monitoring information related to the 2011 opening of the Bonnet Carré Spillway and the Morganza Floodway and does not provide an exhaustive list of existing gages and other data collection points.
